Letter to the Editor: Bravo, Council!

Something absolutely wonderful happened Tuesday night. I’ve been following CBRM council for four years now and have been highly critical many times and I’ll stick to my guns on that.

Last night, I watched an absolutely beautiful form of democracy from a well-oiled machine (mayor and council), considering they were only elected a few months ago. The debates over issues were awesome. They had me flip-flopping on issues like a fish out of water, which is what we elected them for. At the end, I didn’t even care which side of an issue won out. Everything was left on the field.

Speaker after speaker presented well-thought-out ideas with the input of the people they represent front and center. Sure, there were disagreements, but they agreed to disagree. Not a rubber stamp in sight.

Our mayor and council took a pounding over their recent “retreat” from many, including me, in particular over who was invited. That was questionable, but they can work that out behind the scenes. If springing for a coffee, donut, sandwich and a night out produces the kind of results I saw last night, then count me in.

Last night’s performance was a real treat, a breath of fresh air.

Well done, folks.
